2006 RECORDING VOLUME CONTINUES SLIDE!

2006 vs. 2005  

There were 112,790 documents and plans recorded at the registry of deeds and Land Court in 2006. This past year saw a continuation of a trend that began to materialize in 2004. After setting record recording numbers in 2003 (over 200,049 documents and plans recorded), 2004 saw a significant drop in the volume of recordings (138,119).  2005 saw a total of 124,763 documents and plans recorded at the registry and in the Land Court .  

2006 follows (in order) 2003, 2002, 1998, 2004, 1986, 1999, and 2005 as one of busiest years ever in our 300+ year history.  

For all transactions over $50,000 the volume of real estate sales for 2006 compared to 2005 was down 22.5%. The total value of sales was down 11.3% from the previous year. The average individual property sales value was unchanged from the previous year.  Mortgage activity dropped 17.7% from last year’s levels.
