2002 BREAKS RECORDS FOR VOLUME!

2002 vs. 2001

2002 was by far the busiest year ever in the 300 year history of the Barnstable County Registry of Deeds.  This past year saw a total of 164,997 documents and plans recorded at the registry and in the Land Court. This number was an 20.8% increase over the year 2001, which saw 136,565 documents and plans recorded.

Incidentally, the year 2001 was the fourth busiest year on record for real estate activity within Barnstable County.  2001 trailed only 1998 and 1999 and 2002 as the busiest years ever in our 300 year history.  In 1998, our second busiest year, 145,203 documents and plans were recorded. 1999 saw 137,666 documents and plans recorded.

For transactions between $25,000 and $1,000,000 the volume of real estate sales for 2002 was up 6%. The total value of sales was up 24.7% from the previous year. The average individual property sales value was up 17.6% from the previous year.  Mortgage activity rose a solid 35.5% from the year 2001’s impressive levels.
